Arriving at the resplendent setting of the Viceroy we expected nothing less than 5 star treatment and that's exactly what we got from the valet onwards. Walking in to an empty restaurant set a rather subdued tone for the brunch and although other Saturday brunchers arrived part way through, it never reached anywhere beyond half full so this is one where we suggest you bring good company rather than rely on atmosphere. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with stunning views across the F1 Track and an outdoor terrace. The traditional open kitchen provides excellent entertainment if you want to watch sushi rolling etc and the chefs are friendly and more than happy to have you watch them at work. img_8830 There is a Kazu Brunch (225AED) and a Kazu Sake Brunch with alcohol and prosseco (375AED) to choose from and both offer great value. There was no drinks menu forth coming which we felt would have been easier than asking our server each time about drinks availability and inclusions. The Kirin Japanese beer and Sake give the alcohol package that authentic feel but it is the food and the quality of it that really transport you to the streets of Japan. Served to the table as a 5 course meal, but with plenty of options within that structure to choose from and the ability to ask for more of your favorites. Miso Soup & Edamame kick things off as is traditional in most Japanese meals, followed by starters including Salmon, Tuna, Crab, Shrimp and beef. The salmon in particular was a big favourite and more was quick to come on request. This course was followed by a variety of Soba and Vegetable Tempura, Sushi & Sashimi from the dedicated sashimi bar was some of the best we have had in the UAE, well presented, fresh and not too starchy. img_8831 Moving on to the main courses, where you can select a single dish from a choice of either beef, chicken or seafood. We quickly learned that we were right to not ‘save ourselves' for mains as they weren't so much a main meal in their own right, but something between a starter and main in terms of size. If you came particularly ravenous, we would suggest ordering multiple instances from the starters, however the quality and the array of them mean that this is no issue at all for us. The Toban Yaki Beef and Chicken Skewers in particular were delicious, and served fresh from the sizzling Teppanyaki grill. img_8670 Bursting and temporarily content, we polished off the last of our refreshing Kirin beers and nearly forgot about desert, but we wouldn't be giving you a full review without trying them and we are glad that we did. The chocolate fondant with ice cream was lovely but I went for the white chocolate dome beautifully presented and then with hot milk chocolate poured over by the server melting it all into a gooey ball of pure joy I could have eaten a thousand times over. img_8832 It was difficult to choose which course we liked the best, but it is safe to say that for quality Japanese food, you won't find much better anywhere in the UAE. Overall, the authentic feel, the 5 star food and the outstanding location mean this is a Japanese food fans delight but do take your own GOOD company to make a proper social brunch of it.
