Escape to the islands on a weekend sojourn to the tastiest brunch in RAK. With giant blue letters at the entrance spelling out "Lets Brunch," you know they mean business right from the outset.
This beachside fiesta is all about modernity and freshness, but also provides an ode to the past with retro fitted memorabilia including a vintage mini cooper and Vespa scooter adorning the terrace.
THE FOOD
Vespa and Brasserie, the hotel's side by side signature restaurants are transformed for Friday brunch. Vespa is hollowed out and turned into a fresh salad and vegetable market where diners gather their own selection of greens and hand them to the waiting chef who will then chop, mix and garnish them expertly into your very own custom creation. The other features of the minimalist offering include a vast selection of cheeses & charcuterie, the fresh, made-to-order pasta and the wild porcini mushroom risotto served inside an oversize wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano.
One of the most impressive sights on the day was to be found just through the interconnecting door into Brasserie where the "fish shop" mounts an impressive display of local and international catches from the stable of the famous actor Gerard Depardieu. The daily catch included Red Scorpion Mullet, Monkfish, Yellow Fin Tuna, Razor Clams, Lobster, Mud Crab and many other deep sea delicacies which the chefs would then prepare either deed fried, grilled or flash fried to your preference in a number of marinades. The meaty monkfish and green salsa verde sauce was outstanding and a highlight of the day.
In addition to a generous salad bar there were more options including Roast Beef and Roast Duck with Yorkshire puddings, Cheese Fondue and a fresh and zesty fish tartar station. Outside on the terrace, the Arabic tent served up succulent grilled lamb skewers, lamb ouzi and kofta's while the Asian section played host to an authentically tasty Nasi Goreng and large fried prawns that you had to be quick to snare as soon as they came out of the fryer.
THE DRINK
The brunch includes 3 packages in keeping with the island theme; The Hawaiian includes Unlimited soft drinks, mocktails & juices. The Bahamas Package includes unlimited house beverages, juices, spirits, cocktails and sparkling beverages, and the Maldives Package includes everything in the Bahamas package, plus an additional hour in the Anchor bar after party/drinks included. There are plenty of imaginative and playful beverages on offer throughout the day. From the Aperol Spritz cart on entry, the Exotic Cocktails: Classic Coconut, Watermelon Daiquiri, Tikki Mojito, Tikki Colada, Watermelon Jellies, Orange Jellies served in their skins and syringes full of flavoured vodka.
THE OTHER STUFF
Value for money at this beachside brunch is some of the best we have seen anywhere, and makes those in Dubai and Abu Dhabi look steep in comparison when you consider the quality of the food, the wide selection of beverages, the picturesque location and the added bonus of an hours free consumption at the after party plus beach and pool access. Entertainment on the terrace is provided by an acoustic guitarist accompanying the groups of friends, families and holiday makers enjoying the beachside views and carnival convivial atmosphere.
Put plainly...this is the BEST Brunch in RAK!
