Located in the heart of swanky DIFC, INTERSECT BY LEXUS is considered a third space, a comfortable destination between work and home that offers an inspiring networking opportunity for luxury lifestyle seekers, allowing them to experience the Lexus brand via design, cuisine, art, fashion, music and technology.

The part restaurant, part library, part car showroom plays host to various unique concept cars sat atop of a reinforced glass floor, showcasing 155 white Lexus car parts from exhausts to steering wheels to fuel pistons. There is also a touch pad system which hides behind it a typically futuristic Japanese-designed, heated and self-flushing toilet, and an impressive toy car wall featuring over 1,400 replicas from motoring history. 2 notable models were
highlighted as signed by Omar Al Futtaim and Tokuo Fuuichi, President of Lexus International. Points scored for attention to detail...

THE FOOD

There is a story behind each dish developed by Chef Thomas Reger, who believes that the "Culinology" experience of the eatery begins from sourcing from the finest organic ingredients, and that his artisan cuisine should not only look good, but also leave you feeling good, both mentally and physically.

Approaching the busy sunken live serving area, the wooden serving bowls and faux displays of root vegetables, RAW coffee and sticks of whole cinnamon sits in perfect harmony with the brands philosophy of immaculate craftsmanship, using the finest produce around.

You are free to choose from a selection of hand crafted salads served from either small bowls or plates including a Kale, Sunflower and Avocado Salad, Butternut with Pepitas and Pumpkin Seed Pesto, Chickpea and Hazlenut & finally a Kohlrabi dish served with Turnip and Labneh.
You are then invited to select from the following Small Plates:
• Crudites with Black Chickpea Hummus
• Carrot Emulsion and Yoghurt Tartine
• Lentil Pate on an unleavened Buckwheat Bread
• Cauliflower Soup
• Smoked Beef Brisket Gyoza with Kale and Spring Onion
• Spiced Smoked Duck Breast with Berry Chutney
• Warm Crab Meat with Confit Fennel and a Citrus Dressing

As is our custom of not wanting to miss out on anything, we sampled every dish on the menu and were particularly impressed by the Smoked Beef Brisket Gyoza, the Spiced Smoked Duck Breast and the smokiness of the Black Chickpea Hummus and duly ordered second plates of each before moving onto the next course.

You are then asked to select one large plate from the following:
• Mushroom and Barley Rissotto with Sour Cream
• Cornfed Chicken Breast with Butternut and Spinach
• Wagyu Steak with Champ and Roasted Cauliflower
• Moghrabieh with Vegetables and Tomato Sauce
• Mediterranean Seam Bream, Roasted Pepper Coulis and Zucchini

Mrs B chose the Wagyu Steak with Roasted Cauliflower. The Champ, which is an Irish creamy mashed potato mixed with chopped scallions and buttermilk was so good that it nearly stole the show from the tiny slab of juicy tenderloin sat gratifyingly beside it in a bath of sweet jus. I chose the Mediterranean Seam Bream, the red pepper coulis was the perfect accompaniment to the fleshy fish, although if I was being particularly fussy I would have preferred a slightly crispier skin.

Approaching the finish line of our so far raceworthy meal, we were served a Carrot Cake with Hazlenut Sabayon and Labneh, and an Intersect Oreo with Dates and Apricots. The Carrot cake was dense but delicious and the sabayon was bursting with creamy flavour yet dissolved in your mouth into nothing. The labneh accompaniment on the other hand provided a salty twang which our taste buds could not quite work out and didn't fit well with the otherwise saccharine and sensual dessert.

THE DRINK
With 2 packages available, guests are invited to enjoy a selection Fresh Juices & Soft Drinks, or Beer (Peroni), Wine (Lupi Realli, Italy or Casa Merlot, Chile) and a strange single spirit selection of Tanqueray Gin. We couldn't quite work out why this was the only spirit offered but as avid Gin drinkers, we didn't mind. For the seasoned digestif drinkers, there are also a selection of Coffees from boutique roaster RAW and a similarly upscale edition from premium tea makers Avantcha, both can be prepared at your table with a theatrical filter system complete with Bunsen burners that reminded us of our high school chemistry lessons. The result, an extracted coffee which was much lighter in body, yet still packed that strong flavour and intense hit of caffeine which was a welcome boost to onrushing food coma.

THE OTHER STUFF
Lexus has always been one to set benchmarks in design, technology and experience and this venue proves no different. From the wooden fishbone flooring and white ceilings representing the sand dunes of the middle eastern desert, to the bamboo wall representation of the Lexus Spindle. Michelle and Manuelle, the singer and sax duet provide the smokey, sultry back room jazz house vibe to accompany the interactive atmosphere where guests muse over seemingly highbrow conversations.

Part restaurant, part loft, part dealership, part retail space, part living room, part library…all in all, the parts add up to something pretty cool and a very welcome addition to the DIFC cross section of eateries.
