Tucked away on the ground floor of the iconic Jumeirah Emirates Towers (next to Cartier, ofcourse) lies a hidden heavyweight. Not just in oriental cuisine, but in the wider context of the culinary world itself, the world renowned Hakkasan.
Since it was founded in London in 2001, it has become one of the world's most distinguished global restaurant brands, as the first Chinese restaurant in Europe to be awarded a coveted Michelin star and sprouting 12 new locations including Mumbai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Miami, New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Shanghai.
A sophisticated and elegant venue, with sultry dark blue tones, intimate seating, wooden murals and the occasional inflection of the world famous back-to back double"K" to subtly remind you of where you are dining. The atmosphere matches the minimalistic decor, with warm ambient music in the background and soft but ample lighting.
THE FOOD
The Hakka Brunch is tailored for groups as the menu is designed to be shared. In fact, it is bad news altogether for solo diners as the minimum required to partake in any of the packages is 2 people. So as long as you are "partnered" up, get ready for what is described as an "impressive epicurean experience" designed under the tutelage of Executive Chef Ho Chee Boon, and their various Michelin stars across the world. En route to our table, we were primed by our waiter with a well-rehearsed and well executed pitch to plan our next trip back to try the famous Roasted Silver Cod with Champagne and Honey…we admired his forward thinking and air of confidence that we would be returning which seemed to work as by the time we had taken our seats it is safe to say that we were chomping at the bit, primed with anticipation.
The brunch menu is divided into 3 parts, from which you are able to select 4 dishes from the selection of steamed Dim Sum, 4 from the selection of Fried and Baked Dim Sum, and then a single main course. (which we were disappointed to see did not contain the Roasted Silver Cod we had heard so much about) I guess we would have to return to try it out afterall…very clever. There were also a number of live cooking stations dotted around including an educational Peking Duck Dumpling station with details on the history of how the dish is made and typically eaten.
The courses are detailed below for your reference, but of particular note were the melt in your mouth Wagyu Beef and Truffle Dumpling which tastes as decadent as it sounds, and the Red Snapper which was exceptionally gratifying on the eyes, as well as on the taste buds!

Desserts were a small but typically elegant selection including Homemade Maccaroons,Chocolate Truffles, Lemon Meringue, Chocolate Orange Tarteletes and a Coconut and Pineapple Mousse. A pleasant way to round off our meal with a traditional Tea.
THE DRINK
Now for drinks...the first option (199Dhs) is non alcoholic and includes a selection of various tea's. The middle tier (420Dhs) offers an unlimited selected beers, cocktails, spirits, wines, Bellini's and premium Preseco (Conti d'Arco Brut, Italy). The top tier option (588Dhs) offers everything from the other two tiers below but with the addition Sake and of course Champagne (Laurent Perrier Brut NV).
The extensive wine list offers over 100 different varieties of wine, and we were delighted to see that not one, not two, but 3 varieties of both white and red had made their way onto the brunch menu. One of the most generous offerings we have experienced in terms of wineries and represents the diversity in the range of flavour profiles on offer throughout the day.
The grape roll of honour, representing the white wines were a Sauvignon Blanc Estrellas from Chile, a Garganega Pinot Grigio and a Trebbiano Terre Allegre from Italy, Representing the reds were a Finca el Origen Cabernet Sauvignon, a Pinot Noir Villa Wolf and a Malbec "Finca la Linda" from Argentina.
OVERALL
Designed by the French designer Christian Liaigre, the modern, authentic interior at the original Hakkasan fused modern aesthetics with traditional Chinese motifs and these are still in existence across its Dubai branch. It's tantalising dim sum and its generous selection of beverages of the non alcoholic as well as the more boozy variety were greatly appreciated by everyone around us. For a brunch where piquant food and open aired conversation are the main focus, the Hakka brunch is a solid choice. Additionally we found the staff (and not just at our table) very attentive and knowledgeable when it came to the pairing food with sauces and wines!
This Asian inspired brunch fits the bill equally for those seeking a business brunch, a family outing, or even the most fervent of celebrations. A feat not many out there can achieve under one roof, I just wish they put that darned Silver Cod on the menu!!
