BREAD STREET KITCHEN & BAR OFFERS THE ULTIMATE IN FAMILY BRUNCHES

With little or no introduction necessary, the infamously foul mouthed custodian of exacting standards has launched a family friendly Brunch with a fully inclusive dining experience and a variety of entertainment to keep little ones busy whilst parents get a little ‘me time'.

THE FOOD

Bread Street Kitchen is Chef Gordon Ramsay's fourth outpost of the popular London Eatery and his biggest and busiest restaurant globally, and you will be amazed by the sheer vastness of the place when you walk in. BSK sets out to offer a high quality, yet informal gastro-style dining experience with a British/European influenced menu which is overseen by Chef de Cuisine Cesar Bartolini.

Starting with trips to the raw bar, we took our pick from a wide but not overly vast selection of fresh looking salad bowls, breads (naturally) & artisan cheeses. The devilled tuna, smoked salmon, kale salad and chicken liver parfait were indicative of the simplicity, freshness and high quality of ingredients which were to be used throughout the day.
Returning to our table, a trifecta of hot appetizers were brought across to share, each accompanied by a knowledgeable explanation, including flatbread with sweet caramelized onions, pecan nuts and broccollini, fish cakes and tamarind spiced chicken wings. Dishes that we are told change regularly with seasonal produce.

Mains are another delightfully simple choice. Most of us have been faced with this decision on one flight or another, however I doubt many of the "Fish, Chicken or Beef" dishes would have been executed to the standard of what we were to be served. The generous slabs of Beef had been prepared for 3 days, the roast half chicken crisp yet perfectly moist, and the seabass light with fresh seasonal vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. You could tell that although the dishes are unpretentious, they had been cooked with love. We did find the vegetables were a little too sweet for our liking however, perhaps cooked in a syrup or demi glaze?

Kids are invited to wander the sweet shop, the ice cream parlour, the smoothie bar, or indeed try their hand at the art of pizza twirling or cookie decorating, leaving their parents to enjoy much merriment. A fact which had not been lost on the numerous tables of regulars we spoke to on the day.

THE DRINK

A simple selection of Red (Merlot), White (Sauvignon Blanc), Rose (Cab Sauv Rose) and Estrella Damm Hops. For non-alcohol drinkers, a selection of fizzy pops, ginger ale, bitter lemon, fresh juices and a mocktail of the day will keep you refreshed.

THE OTHER STUFF

In addition to a delicious menu of British inspired cuisine, for just 95 AED per child, each family receives complimentary access to the underwater world of The Lost Chambers Aquarium, the Beyond the Sea Activity Village, and an arts and crafts haven situated in front of the jaw dropping Ambassador Lagoon.

The relaxed brunch vibe is complemented perfectly by the live acoustic melodies of Tim Hassall, who plays throughout a very healthy proportion of the brunch. Thank god he's good! Hassall gets lost in the music. You can tell both from his look and sound that he is all about his music and artistry, often making endearing connections with various members of the audience through his approachability and ability to take off the cuff requests, from Bob Marley to the theme tune from the Jungle Book. We sat back and watched in awe as he engaged with 50 year olds and with 5 year olds, dazzling each with equal parts skill and idiosyncrasy.

In terms of negative feedback, we found that a restaurant of this size "should" have its own toilet. Having to go out into the grounds of the Atlantis to use the bathrooms, where there were literally hundreds of non-brunching tourists, taking pictures and staring at brunchers in their finest wares as they make their way gingerly past made us feel a tad uncomfortable to say the least. With the huge amount of space available to BSK, we feel that investing in a couple of internal toilets would go a long way!

Overall, this is a winner for families with the entertainment extras playing a key part in many families returning week in - week out. We do believe the "brand" plays a large part in attracting the crowds who, if it was based on the "simple" albeit very good food offering would perhaps choose other brunches ahead of this one. But it is Gordon, who makes regular trips to the restaurant to keep an eye on the staff, and ofcourse give a timely injection of footfall that the Ramsey PR machine drives so well around the globe, along with the fantastic offering for children and first class entertainment that will ultimately keep the vast floors full for a long time to come.
